The Effects of War

The Vietnam War is perceived by many as a pointless war that left many families without fathers and sons. When I think of the Vietnam War, the first thing I think of is how it affected the people in the United States. Unfortunately, the Vietnam War was not discussed as much as other wars in my high school, so I have had to use the news, movies, and television as ways to understand about the war. These media outlets tended to focus on the affects the war had on the people inside the United States and not so much the actual fighting going on. So after reading and watching these reports over the years, I have perceived the war as having many consequences to the soldiers after they get back from fighting, such as post-traumatic stress.
This link above explains some of the things soldiers went through after they came home from battle. As time has gone on, society has only now began to realize the effect war has on soldiers after they come home.

I think it's really cool that you don't focus so much on the war itself, but on the effect that it had on its soldiers. I definitely agree though. The Vietnam War is most famous for the "shell shock" it left its victims with. This is an important issue and I'm really glad you brought it up.
